Can You Edit a Reddit Post After Posting?

Yes, you can edit the content of a Reddit text post after publishing, but you cannot edit its title. Reddit also lets you edit comments. An asterisk appears next to edited content to show other users that it changed.

If the mistake is in the title, it cannot be fixed with the edit control. If it is in the text body, use the post menu to make the correction and save.

Which parts of a Reddit post can you edit?

Reddit’s Help Center says you can edit the content of a text post, but not its title. It also says comments can be edited. The exact editable fields can depend on the type of post, so do not assume that a text-post body edit changes a link, image, or other media attachment.

Post element	Can you edit it?	What Reddit says
Text post content	Yes	You can edit a text post’s content.
Post title	No	A post’s title cannot be edited.
Comment	Yes	Reddit lets you edit comments.
Link or media attachment	Do not assume	Reddit’s edit guidance specifically describes text post content and comments.

For the current rules, see Reddit’s official guide to editing posts and comments.

Can you change a Reddit post title after publishing?

No. Reddit does not let you edit a post title after it is submitted. The edit option applies to a text post’s content, not its title.

If the title contains an error, do not expect to correct it through Edit Post. For a text post, you can add a brief correction in the body so readers have the accurate information. Whether to remove and repost is a separate choice, and you should consider the community’s rules and the discussion already attached to the post.

Reddit’s own Reddiquette guidance recommends checking submission titles before posting, because titles cannot be changed after submission.

How do you edit a Reddit text post?

Open the post’s overflow menu, choose Edit Post, make the change, and save. Reddit documents this basic flow on reddit.com and in its iOS and Android apps.

1. Open the text post you want to update.
2. Click or tap the overflow menu on the post.
3. Choose Edit Post.
4. Correct the post content, then save the edit.

To edit a comment, use the overflow menu on that comment and choose Edit Comment. The menu wording or placement may vary as Reddit updates its interface, so use the latest Help Center steps if your screen differs.

What does the Reddit edit asterisk mean?

The asterisk tells other Reddit users that the content was edited. Reddit adds it next to edited content. It is a visible edit marker, not a warning that the post has been removed or hidden.

If the change could confuse people reading the discussion, make the correction clear in the body. That helps readers understand what changed without relying on an unexplained edit.

What should you check before editing a Reddit post?

Confirm that you are editing the body, not trying to change the title. Read the revised text for accuracy and make sure the correction is understandable in the context of the comments.

• For a factual correction: state what changed plainly in the text post.
• For a title error: remember the title cannot be edited; consider whether a body clarification is enough.
• For a community post: check the community rules before making a substantial change.

An edit does not guarantee more votes, reach, or discussion. For other Reddit metric questions, read our guide to Reddit Karma vs Upvotes. The site also lists Reddit services.
